Prof. Dr. S B Mujumdar is the Founder and President, Symbiosis, and Chancellor, Symbiosis International (Deemed University). A renowned academic and educationalist, he has received civilian honor many times by the Government of India. He was awarded Padma Shri in 2005 and Padma Bhushan in 2012. He was also awarded Punyabhushan in 2009. The complete list of accolades is far too long for these pages, and includes Maharashtra Gaurav Award and the FIE Foundation Award. He was born on 31 July 1935, in Gadhinglaj, Kolhapur district, Maharashtra. He won a Master’s degree in Botany and a Doctorate in Microbiology. He was the Head of the Department of Botany at the Fergusson College, Pune, for over twenty years. He has authored a number of books and published research papers in botany. He also served on the Executive Council, Senate, and Academic Council of the University of Pune for several years.

Dr. Vidya Yeravdekar is the Principal Director of Symbiosis Society, and Pro Chancellor of Symbiosis International University. Symbiosis International University is a multi-disciplinary, multinational, multi-cultural University having more than 45000 students from all States of India and international students from 85 countries. The Symbiosis Society not only has under its ambit the Symbiosis International University but also has K12 Schools, College of Arts and Commerce and Museums- the Afro Asian Cultural Museum and the Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Museum & Memorial.
Dr. Vidya Yeravdekar holds a Post Graduate Degree in Medicine, a Degree in Law and Ph.D. in 'Internationalisation of Higher Education in India’. Having presented papers at various National & International Conferences, she has numerous research publications to her credit and has also authored several books. Ranked No.14 amongst India’s top 25 Powerful Women, Dr. Vidya has been instrumental in bringing in innovative approaches to promote internationalisation of higher education in India.
As a member of University Grants Commission (UGC) for two terms, Central Advisory Board of Education (CABE) under Ministry of Education and Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) under Ministry of External Affairs, she has been a facilitator of innovative approaches to higher education in India.
The University has institutes under 8 faculties viz. Management, Law, Humanities & Social Sciences, Health & Biological Sciences, Computer Studies, Engineering, Media Communication & Design. Dr. Vidya holds a Post Graduate Degree in Medicine, a degree in Law and is a Ph.D. in 'Internationalisation of Higher Education in India'.
Dr. Vidya Yeravdekar was appointed as a member of the expert group on Global Outreach of Higher Education, formulated by UGC to implement the National Education Policy 2020 that was rolled out by the Ministry of Education Govt. of India, member of the Advisory Group of Analytical and Advisory work (ASA) World Bank, Advisory Committee of the IAU for the global survey on internationalization and member of the Board of Trustees of Muscat University, Oman.
She is a Chairperson of the FICCI Committee on Higher Education and serving third term. She is also the Vice President of Mahratta Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture (MCCIA).

Dr. Ramakrishnan Raman, an accomplished academician and seasoned professional, is the Vice Chancellor at Symbiosis International (Deemed University).
Dr. Raman's contributions extend beyond the classroom, as he has been instrumental in fostering international collaborations with universities in Japan, Canada, United Kingdom, and the United States. His prolific research in Information Systems, IT Strategy, Entrepreneurship, AI, Big Data, has earned him recognition with national and international academia. Aston University's Aston India Centre for Applied Research, College of Business and Social Sciences, has appointed Dr. Raman as an Honorary Professor for a three-year term ending in 2027
Dr. Ramakrishnan Raman's commendable contributions have earned him recognition in both administrative and research spheres. In 2024, he was appointed as a distinguished member of prestigious committees by the University Grants Commission. Dr. Raman's wealth of expertise promises to significantly enhance these committees, as his participation will play a pivotal role in effecting amendments and refining existing processes.
Dr. Ramakrishnan Raman brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to this esteemed institution. His extensive career spanning over two decades is a testament to his diverse experience in the corporate, academic, and research domains. He has served Symbiosis for over a decade in different capacities including Professor & Director Symbiosis Centre for Information Technology, Professor & Director Symbiosis Institute of Business Management – Pune, Dean – Faculty of Management and Director – Strategy & Development.
Dr. Rajiv Yeravdekar

A Gold Medal awardee at M.D. (Ob & Gyn), Dr. Rajiv topped the Maharashtra Public Service Commission examination and was faculty in the Dept of Ob & Gyn, B. J. Medical College and Sassoon General Hospital, Pune, before he established the Faculty of Medical & Health Sciences (FoMHS) at SIU.
The FoMHS has conceptualized & implemented a group of unique, innovative and career oriented programmes meant to raise a cadre of healthcare professionals who would ensure delivery of optimum healthcare services by all cadres of healthcare professionals. The Symbiosis Medical College for Women (SMCW) and the Symbiosis University Hospital & Research Centre (SUHRC) have been recent additions to the FoMHS.
A Ph.D. from the Faculty of Management, Pune University, Dr. Rajiv has been a member of various Governmental bodies including the erstwhile Medical Council of India, Central Supervisory Board, Maharashtra Medical Council, Maharashtra Nursing Council, Consultancy Development Center, DSIR etc. & is an active member of professional organizations like FICCI, NATHEALTH etc.
Dr. Rajiv Yeravdekar is a Member of the Specialists Board of DNB & FNB in the specialty of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of India, Member of Accreditation Board for the Healthcare Sector Skill Council (HSSC), CII Western Region Sub-Committee on Healthcare and also ex member of Senate of the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences’ (MUHS). He is also a member of the Planning & Monitoring Board, Academic Council and Board of Management of SIU.
Dr. Rajiv Yeravdekar is championing the concept of Health Promoting Higher Educational Institutes in India. He is a Member of the Steering group of International Health Promoting Universities and Colleges, the working group of UGC to bring out policy on Health Promoting University & the Fit India Movement Campaign Committee, MHRD, GoI. He has been nominated on the WHO Project on Development of Health and Wellness Assessment Index for Higher Educational Institutions in India. As a member of various national bodies, Dr Rajiv has contributed to policy formulation and regulatory mechanisms influencing healthcare delivery and medical / nursing education nationally.
Recipient of many awards and accolades, Dr. Rajiv has contributed a number of articles in various national and international journals.

Symbiosis International (Deemed University) is established on the Vedic Principles of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbukkam’ by the visionary educationist Prof. Dr. S. B. Mujumdar, Chancellor of the University.
The University had envisioned in creating world class infrastructural and medical facilities with an ultra-modern Hospital and Research Centre and a Medical College with state-of–art laboratories, which shall not only cater to the local community but benefit educators and students in studies and research. I am sure that qualified and experienced faculty recruited will not only mentor the students but build on the foundations of the Symbiosis and place them in the best leadership positions.
The Symbiosis Medical College for Women, a Constituent of Symbiosis International (Deemed University), is established for women to make an opportunity to excel in the field of medical education. In its pursuit of excellence, the College shall endeavor to create a dynamic and synergistic environment for students to aspire for successful careers in varied fields of medicine as scientists, doctors, researchers who shall strive to eradicate diseases and serve humanity.
Internationalisation of Higher Education is the DNA of Symbiosis. This idea will obviously be replicated in the Medical College also. Students from diverse backgrounds from across the country and globe will adventure into new ideas which will help in advancement of humanity.

Dr. V. K. Sashindran

Dr. V. K. Sashindran assumed office as Dean of Symbiosis Medical College for Women and Symbiosis University Hospital and Research Centre on 4 August 2025. He is an alumnus of the Armed Forces Medical College, Pune, where he did his MBBS (1986) and MD in General Medicine (1993), Pune University, followed by a DNB in General Medicine (1995). He was awarded an NIH-Fogarty Fellowship in Advanced AIDS Research at UCLA (2004–06) and completed an M.Sc. in Infectious Diseases at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (2007).
Over a 35-year career in the Indian Air Force, Dr. Sashindran served as Staff Surgeon to the Chief of Air Staff, Principal Medical Officer of the Central Air Command in Prayagraj, and Air Officer Commanding of the 7 Air Force Hospital in Kanpur.
At AFMC, Pune, he was Professor and Head of Internal Medicine. He also established the first Geriatric Medicine unit and introduced multidisciplinary teaching models. Transitioning to civilian academia, he directed postgraduate studies at KS Hegde Medical Academy, NITTE University, and served as Dean of DY Patil School of Medicine, Navi Mumbai.
As principal investigator or co-investigator on more than a dozen externally funded studies, Dr. Sashindran leads research on accelerated ageing in prediabetes, sarcopenia, assessment via point-of-care diagnostics and digital therapeutics in palliative care. He has authored over 150 peer-reviewed articles, book chapters and conference presentations on HIV–TB co-infection, immunosenescence, metabolic complications of antiretroviral therapy, geriatric frailty, polypharmacy, and community-based WASH and child-nutrition interventions.
His distinguished service has been honoured with the Vishisht Seva Medal for Distinguished Service (2018), two Chief of the Air Staff Commendation Medals (2009, 2013) and Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians, Edinburgh (2019). He contributed to National Health Policy by being a member of the TRG for Adult & Adolescent Anti-Retroviral Therapy Guidelines forecasting committee of the National AIDS Control Organisation and by being a member of Drug Forecasting Committee of the National AIDS Control Organisation. A life member of multiple professional societies, he is an avid mountaineer and certified outdoor leader (NOLS, USA) with expeditions across the Himalaya, Karakoram, Atlas and Alps, and a dedicated philatelist specializing in mountain-themed stamps.
